KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Kuala Lumpur Roundtable on Asia-Pacific Regional Cooperation of the Boao Forum for Asia has been held in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together over 200 representatives to discuss ways to deepen regional cooperation and advance the process of integration.
The rise of multipolarity and the Global South nations will re-energize globalization's aspirations while fending off threats to greater integration, trade and economic cooperation, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said in his special address during the plenary meeting on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Ho Hau Wah, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, pointed out that Asia and the Asia-Pacific should adhere to the path of open development and promote regional cooperation to a higher level.
He urged ASEAN states to seize the initiative in the transformation of the global economy and build closer partnerships, guided by the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, jointly build a "beautiful home."
Secretary-General of Boao Forum for Asia Zhang Jun stated that the world has entered a new period of turbulence and change, and the importance of regional cooperation has further increased.
"As long as we keep the right direction, choose the right path, and persevere in building a regional cooperation and economic governance model with Asian and Asia-Pacific characteristics, Asia and the Asia-Pacific will surely become a positive force and a strong support for hedging against the world's uncertainty," he said.
The forum was held from Aug. 26 to Aug. 27. ■
